What is a Graduate Program?

A Graduate Program with the WA State Government provides graduates with a comprehensive career development program and assists with the transition from university to employment.

The Program also provides graduates with a range of basic skills and knowledge, to enable them to undertake projects across a diverse number of positions.

The main features of a Graduate Program include:

  • Commencing employment at a Level 2 or 3 classification (ie not entry level);
  • Rotating through various divisions within an agency to maximise your experiences, skills and knowledge;
  • Possibility of permanent employment upon successful completion of the Program.

 

How do I apply for a Graduate Program?

There are two ways you can apply:

1. Online at www.jobs.wa.gov.au

Details of Graduate Programs and recruitment dates are advertised online. Just follow these steps to apply online:

  • go to www.jobs.wa.gov.au
  • select the Graduate Program you're interested in;
  • read the Program information carefully to ensure you meet all requirements;
  • complete the Application Form.

2. The West Australian newspaper

The Saturday edition of "The West Australian" newspaper also advertises Graduate Programs.

 

Am I eligible to apply for a Graduate Program?

You're eligible to apply if you meet both the following criteria:

  • you're a recent university graduate or you're about to graduate from university; and
  • you're an Australian citizen or permanent resident, currently living in Western Australia.

Eligibility criteria are specified in each Graduate Program, so please take the time to read the advertisement carefully.

 

When does recruitment occur?

Agencies recruit for the Graduate Programs on an annual basis. However, the timing of graduate opportunities differs between agencies and these can be advertised at anytime during the year.

Do agencies offer placements for university students to undertake work experience or practical work?

Some WA State Government agencies offer work experience placements and Vacation Programs for university students to undertake practical work.
